It was a night of celebration and recognition at the Centenary Edition of KOLA Awards 2014 held at the Sheraton Hotels on December 7, 2014 during which KOLA Initiative chose to
recognize the creative, innovative and leadership abilities of children and teenagers.The star awardee, Mfonobong Umondia, a 16-year old professional application developer, created a mobile phone game called “Save Nigeria” which can be downloaded from Google apps store. Other awardees were Munachi Offor, a skillful 12-year old footballer; Kelvin a 14-year old multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, Chukwuemeka Obi-Obasi, a brilliant 10-year old spoken word poet and Mary-Peace Chiamaka, a 15-year old writer with numerous publications.
Also honoured were Hanson Johnson and Miles Morland Foundation, UK who were dubbed the KOLA Kids Man and KOLA Kids Company of the year for their contribution to the development of children in Nigeria.
KOLA Initiative is an NGO whose mission is to help reduce the level of joblessness amongst the youth by creating a platform where today’s kids and teenagers who are doing well in different fields are recognised, celebrated and encouraged through KOLA Awards and Magazine. The organisation believes that this in turn would inspire other children to work hard to develop their hobbies into lucrative ventures.
