Originally from Nembe in Bayelsa State, Real Ice was born in
Warri, Delta state and grew up largely in the oil rich city of Port Harcourt. He started out as a rapper in 2003 with a producer known as Dj Ebis on Real Life Records. His first major performance was when he shared a stage with 2face in 2004. The artiste has recorded over 50 songs ever since. In 2007, he did an unofficial remix of Faze’s Tattoo girl and received airplay on radio stations in Port Harcourt. The artiste listens to a lot of rock music and is a heavy fan of Temptation and Evanescence. He is also an admirer of the music of 2face, Asa and P-square. He plays the acoustic guitar so well and is currently perfecting his hands on the violin. His music is largely drenched in rock, soul, pop and other influences but with a good dose of ‘African-ness’. Thus, he calls his genre of music, Afro Tech Music. He is also into taekwondo and kick-boxing.
Real Ice’s sound has received a lot of commendations both locally and internationally. The artiste has pushed himself to attain a height above the regular horde of artistes in Nigeria. With influences from music greats from the West and Africa, like Evanescence, Asa and 2face, the artiste has managed to create a perfect blend of music with his self-generated genre, Afro Tech Music.
Conventionally, his forth coming debut album contains songs with beats harped from Techno, acoustics, Makossa, and Pop but with a smooth blend of heavy African undertones.
His single ‘Blown Away’ has been described as a track that holds its listeners captive irrespective of their musical preferences. It’s a beautiful piece of acoustic music with impressive lyrics smoothly delivered on the stirring strums of the guitar played by the artiste himself. Real Ice wrote the song on his hospital bed after a near-death experience and it’s hard not to notice the depth of its lyrics.
To spice things up, Real Ice recorded a follow-up dance version of the same song with an upbeat tempo. He is currently premiering the two versions of the songs for his fans.
