Event: National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS To Converge in Uyo On July 18

Students and student leaders all over the country under the auspices of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) will be in Uyo the Akwa Ibom State capital on Friday the 18th of July. They are
not coming for a protest or any form of struggle this time around but for the 2014 edition of the NANS Special Duties Roundtable.

In a release by the Vice President Special Duties of NANS and Chairman, Akwa Ibom Student Leaders ForumComrade Ubon Marcus indicates that the NANS Special Duties Roundtable is an annual platform where students and student leaders all over the country come together to critically reflect on our national polity vis-à-vis the educational sector.  Issues under consideration include government policy on education, the role of students in national development, present democratic challenges and the way forward, state of affairs in campuses, student unionism and its contemporary challenges.

This year’s event with the theme: Students and National Development: Capacity Building for Political Participation shall take a critical look at the forthcoming general elections and explore possible means of involvement by the student community.  This according to the NANS VP has become necessary in view of political developments in the country hence the need to give the student community a sense of direction, focus, and guide them to make proper choices in the forthcoming elections.

The event is scheduled to hold at the Governor’s Office – Annex, Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo by 9am. It shall feature goodwill messages from individuals/organizations, keynote addresses, guest lecture, award ceremony, and unveiling/presentation of NANS 2014 Magazine.
