Akwa United Name New Coach...Ubong Ekpai Returns, Mfon Udoh May Leave Club.

Former First Bank FC manager Patrick Udoh has been named head coach of Akwa United FC of Uyo, while Akwa Starlets handler Emmanuel King (EMU) has been named his assistant. The pair were unveiled this afternoon at the Uyo township stadium. They
were mixed reactions this afternoon at the stadium as many fans were disappointed with the development following speculation that former Enyimba FC and Rangers boss Okey Emordi was ahead of other candidates for the job.

A concerned fan, Mr. Bassey Effiong who spoke with some media men at the stadium during the unveiling ceremony said he was disappointed with the move made and called on the team's board to categorically give reasons why Udoh was chosen over the experienced Emordi.

Akwa United FC has been without a manager following the sack of Justin Tenger who fought a stiff battle that ensured the team's survival from the drop last season. Meanwhile striker Ubong Ekpai has confirmed he will play for the club in the new season if the club's management clear bills owed him. The pacy winger had been on trials with a South-African club and missed the second part of last season.

The new coach is faced with an uphill task of keeping big named players in the depleted side, with last season's top scorer Mfon Udoh is reportedly on his way out of the Club to FA Cup winners Ending of Aba. The striker has also been linked with Bayelsa United and Kano Pillars in the close week.

The Nigerian Premier League season will begin next year after the CHAN championship.
