Cyber Jihad: Pro-ISIS Group Hacks US Military’s Youtube and Twitter Accounts

YouTube and Twitter accounts for the U.S. Central Command were hacked by a pro-ISIS
group yesterday - Monday.

According to CNN reports, the accounts were subsequently suspended, and investigations are ongoing.
The hackers made a first tweet were posted at 12:30 p.m ET: “AMERICAN SOLDIERS, WE ARE COMING, WATCH YOUR BACK. ISIS.”

Thereafter, a series of tweets containing warnings purportedly by ISIS, were published, alongside links to Pentagon documents containing the contact information of military members.

Their YouTube page was also hacked, and ISIS propaganda videos were uploaded.

The US Central Command issued a statement on the incidentwhich reads in part:

Earlier today, U.S. Central Command’s Twitter and YouTube sites were compromised for approximately 30 minutes.

CENTCOM’s operational military networks were not compromised and there was no operational impact to U.S. Central Command.

CENTCOM will restore service to its Twitter and YouTube accounts as quickly as possible. We are viewing this purely as a case of cybervandalism.

In the meantime, our initial assessment is that no classified information was posted and that none of the information posted came from CENTCOM’s server or social media sites.
