His stories are like stories you have heard before and would make you feel bad, especially when thinking of the hard times he passed through, which includes having to drop out of school because of financial issues. This same problem made him to take a decisive step to be serious with his music career. Well, not a bad decision though, looking at the success he has achieved so far. Mr. 2kay, the ‘Bubugaga master’ and Grafton Records artiste will be 'The Next Big thing' in the Nigerian music industry, and for sure will represent the game well beyond Naija because he has what it takes to succeed. He's got the talent, the can-do attitude, an ever solid optimism in himself and consistency, all great qualities needed by all hustlers to achieve their set goals.
Ladies and gentlemen, we feel it will be quite inspiring to let you into the world of Mr 2kay from when he started out, what the journey so far is and what he has got for his fans. Real names, Abiye David Jumbo -Mr 2kay, happen to be a native of Bonny Island, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He attended Community Secondary School, Bonny Island. He moved to Port Harcourt to pursue university education and dropped out of school due to financial problems. At a point, he had to support his mother by hawking kerosene. He also had to draw portrait of people and market it to them for cash reward. He later returned to Bonny Island to secure a job and was able to raise some money to pay for his admission (admitted to study Visual Arts in University of Port-Harcourt) but had to discontinue again due to financial issues. After this incident, he decided to take up a career in music.
Fortunately for this consistent guy, after participating in talent shows hoping to be noticed by record label owners and producers, he was signed by Tonye Ibiama, CEO,Grafton Records during a competition that was aimed at picking local acts that were to perform at the Bonny Beach Carnival where Mr 2kay came tops.
So far, so good, Mr 2kay has been representing for good with great songs like 'Run this town', ‘Oga Dj’ ft Chidinma, ‘Kosi we’re’ ft Ruggedman, ‘Bubugaga’ ,’Bubugaga remix’ ft May7ven & Moelogo (Mr 2kay's very recent song were the video was shot in the UK, in Sept 2013). ‘Bubugaga’ is from Mr.2kay's debut album titled 'Waterside Boy' which was released in 2011. The ‘Bubugaga remix’ produced by Triple O(Ozzie) is off da hook. And now Mr.2kay has got a new great single titled 'Don't leave me' ft Xcellente & Doray to be released on November 6, 2013. From those that have listened to this song, it's been commendations all the way for Mr.2Kay.
